Remembering wildlife in your final wishes is a wonderful way to leave a lasting legacy. Supporting Carolina Wildlife Care, Inc. through planned giving costs little or no money to implement and is a great way to ensure that your assets go directly towards making a difference for wildlife. While it is relatively simple to include CWC in your long-term estate planning, Carolina Wildlife Care strongly encourages all of its supporters to explore the different avenues of planned giving under the guidance of a professional financial advisor.
The following information is needed when including CWC in your final wishes:
Name: Carolina Wildlife Care, Inc.

Federal ID # 57-0932809
As a 501(c) 3 organization, Carolina Wildlife Care, Inc has the opportunity to pursue many different avenues of planned giving based upon the wishes of the donor. However, the most common ways of supporting Carolina Wildlife Care through planned giving are by either designating CWC as the beneficiary in your will, by a gift of a life insurance policy, or a gift of a 401K.
To make a gift to Carolina Wildlife Care by will or bequest, you simply leave a specified dollar amount to the organization. Carolina Wildlife Care encourages unrestricted gifts to provide the Board of Directors flexibility in allocating these resources to projects of utmost importance at CWC.
Some supporters may have life insurance policies that were purchased long ago and are no longer needed, or there may be no surviving family members who will need the policy. You may wish to leave the policy to Carolina Wildlife Care or designate CWC as the beneficiary. A charitable deduction may be claimed for approximately the surrender value of the policy.
In the event that a 401K is no longer needed for retirement or family members, it can also be donated to Carolina Wildlife Care. This can be advantageous for tax purposes, as the entire value of the 401K can be donated without tax penalties.
As Part of the Carolina Wildlife Care Legacy Circle, You Make A Lasting Difference.
CWC supporter, Josephine Furlong, had a special interest in animals. By choosing to remember Carolina Wildlife Care as one of the charities named as beneficiary of her estate, she enabled the wildlife center to invest in ways that is securing the future of the organization to benefit wildlife for years to come. Through Jo’s meaningful planned gift, CWC updated the main rehabilitation room at the Center, constructed a new enclosure for an education animal, added inside cages and completed several other projects. Through her foresight and planning, Jo made a lasting difference at Carolina Wildlife Care and for wildlife in South Carolina.
Individuals interested in making a difference at Carolina Wildlife Care through a planned gift can contact Joanna Weitzel, Executive Director, at 803-772-3994 or by email at carolinawildlifecare@sc.rr.com. If you have already included Carolina Wildlife Care in your estate planning, please let us know and we will include you in the Carolina Wildlife Care Legacy Circle.

Special Designation Gifts
Projects are never ending at Carolina Wildlife Care, and equipment, cages and aviaries need continuous repairs and renovating. Carolina Wildlife Care seeks donors to help sponsor these costs that are also necessary in providing quality care to the animals.
Special designation gifts include the following:
Aviary Sponsorships
For a contribution of $1,000, Carolina Wildlife care will designate an aviary at the center in honor or in remembrance of a friend or family member. An engraved plaque is attached to the aviary bearing the name of the person being honored or remembered through this gift.
Small Mammal Cages
For a contribution of $500, we will designate a small mammal cage at the center in honor or remembrance of a friend or family member. An engraved plaque is attached to the cage bearing the name of the person being honored or remembered through this gift. The donor is also given a special tour of the wildlife center to see exactly how the donation is being put to work.
Large Mammal Cages
For a contribution of $1000, we will designate a large mammal cage at the center in honor in remembrance of a friend or family member. An engraved plaque is attached to the cage bearing the name of the person being honored or remembered through this gift.
Animal Intensive Care Incubator
For a contribution of $900, Carolina Wildlife Care can purchase an incubator to provide an appropriate environment for injured, ill or convalescing patients. Caring for the tiniest and most critical patients always presents a special challenge, but with the right equipment and care the challenge becomes less difficult. The unit provides a proper environment for tiny neonates and hatchling and nestling songbirds. Incubators are located in the main rehabilitation area of the wildlife center. An engraved plaque is attached to the incubator bearing the name of the person being honored or remembered through this gift.
Animal Habitat
New animal habitats can be sponsored to honor or to memorialize a friend or loved one or just to show corporate citizenry. To sponsor a habitat and receive name recognition, it will take at least 50 percent of the habitat’s full construction cost. To sponsor larger capital projects and buildings, it will take at least 40 percent of the construction cost.
For more information on any Special Designation Gift, please contact Joanna Weitzel at 803-772-3994 or by email at carolinawildlifecare@sc.rr.com.
