Ways to Get Involved: Special Volunteer Needs

Give back to your community by volunteering your time and talents in one of these much-needed roles at Carolina Wildlife Care! These special volunteer opportunities require very special, skilled individuals and need to be filled immediately. Carolina Wildlife care is seeking a Public Relations Volunteer to manage public relations for its Spring/Summer Events

  • CWC Wildlife Baby Shower on April 2nd & 3rd, 2011 in Columbia, SC

  • Kid's Day at Wingard's Nursery on April 20th, 2011 in Lexington, SC

  • 3rd Annual Black Tie & Tails Gala - on May 7th, 2011 at Meridian in downtown Columbia, SC

  • Purple Martin Cruise on the Spirit of Lake Murray on July 21st, 2011 in Irmo, SC

  • Camp Wild Things at Carolina Wildlife Care in June/July, 2011 in Columbia, SC.

Responsibilities

  • Creating buzz in the Midlands area for the events

  • Listing event on community/media calendars

  • Pitching pre-event articles and press releases to appropriate media outlets

  • Other outreach as needed

The ideal candidate for this volunteer position

  • Is a one who is a current Public Relations Professional, or one with solid background in PR, who is seeking an altruistic outlet for their talents.
  • Have good connections within the local PR community (not essential, but a plus).
  • Is articulate and possess excellent writing skills.

Want to get to know people, put on a fun event, and help Carolina Wildlife Care at the same time? You can do just that - by joining us as a volunteer for our special events! Carolina Wildlife Care hosts special events to raise funds that provide much-needed medical and supportive care to wildlife patients. CWC's annual fundraising gala in May, Black Tie & Tails, requires a great deal of volunteer assistance. Our volunteers make our events a huge success!

Responsibilities might include

  • Event Set-up & Breakdown
  • Silent and Live Auction Help
  • Registration
  • Greeting and Directing Guests
  • Ticket Sales & Poster Distribution
  • Other Miscellaneous Tasks

The ideal candidate for this volunteer position

  • Bring a strong desire to work with others in furthering the mission of Carolina Wildlife Care.
  • Possesses an outgoing disposition and a cooperative attitude
  • Maintains good connections within the local (not essential, but a bonus).
  • Be dependable and responsible

Carolina Wildlife Care was built by volunteers and continues to run on the backs of volunteers; without them, Carolina Wildlife Care could not help so many animals in need. Carolina Wildlife Care is looking for a coordinator to assist in developing a fun, community-based volunteer program to support the wildlife center's different programs. Volunteer Coordinator must be willing to volunteer 8-10 hours a week during the months of March through November.

Responsibilities include

  • Volunteer recruitment and some training
  • Administration of volunteer paperwork and scheduling
  • Prepare and distribute a monthly electronic volunteer newsletter and weekly wildlife center updates
  • Serve as a liaison between staff and volunteers to address needs
  • Other Miscellaneous Tasks

The ideal candidate for this volunteer position should

  • Enjoy wildlife, people, networking in the community, and have volunteer experience.
  • Possess a can-do attitude and a willingness to help others
  • Be willing to build partnerships with people throughout the community
  • Have adequate computer skills to prepare and distribute email and other simple documents.

This volunteer opportunity is perfect for those handy people who enjoy tinkering around the house! If you have experience fixing things, you can volunteer on your own schedule and choose projects based on your abilities. You must be able to finish any project started in a timely manner.

Responsibilities might include

  • Fixing broken and rotten wood on aviaries and cages.
  • Repairing holes and touch ups to sheetrock, doors, etc. as needed
  • Rescreening cages and cage doors
  • Knowledge of fixing appliances such as washers & dryers, a plus!

The ideal candidate for this volunteer position

  • Is self-sufficient, requiring little supervision
  • Has knowledge of and commitment to the mission of Carolina Wildlife Care
  • Possesses a cooperative attitude
  • Has the ability to work closely with CWC staff and volunteers.
  • Has a basic woodworking ability and familiarity with tools
